but we are on our way again—hoping for lots of snow as we
cross over the mountain. This year we will be spending a day in
Reno, visiting the National Auto Museum, Planetarium, Art Museum,
and more. And the trip would not be complete without the usual
fabulous Basque dinner. Contact Lucy John (510/530-2934) or Helen

Jordan and Dubai: Contrasting Arab Worlds – Art Guild
March 10-22, 2009
Explore the rich and varied cultural heritage of Jordan, this “jewel” of
the Middle East as we tour: the ancient capitol of Amman; Petra,
surely the most spectacular archaeological site of the Middle East;
and Jerash, a remarkably well-preserved Roman provincial city;
The Dead Sea, the lowest place on the earth’s surface; and
the majestic landscape of the desert, Wadi Rum, made famous by
the epic Lawrence of Arabia. Then, experience the amazingly rapid
transformation of Dubai and Abu Dhabi into central players in the
development of the United Arab Emirates, one of the world’s
youngest nations. We’ll see the many faces of the UAE and
experience its emphasis on preserving traditional heritage while
supporting its unparalleled growth and glittering development!
