ARTIST
INFORMATION
The Professional Services division seeks artists from the greater
San Francisco Bay Area working in all media and in all sizes for
inclusion in satellite contemporary art exhibitions. Large-scale
paintings and sculpture are of special interest.
Please consider
the following information if you are interested in submitting slides
for review:
- Professional
Services is a separate division from the Art Department of the
Oakland Museum of California. All P.S. exhibits are off-site and
are not held on the museum premises.
- Professional
Services is committed to exhibiting the work of artists living
and working in California, with a focus on the Bay Area. We are
unable to consider out-of-state artists.
- Professional
Services is dedicated to furthering the museum’s mission
by placing artwork in public spaces. As such, any controversial
subject matter that is sexual, religious or violent in content
is not deemed appropriate for our audiences.
- Should
a purchase result from the exhibition of artwork through P.S.,
all proceeds will go to the artist. P.S. does not take a commission
from artwork sales.
When submitting
slides, please do so according to the following specifications:
- Please
send 12 – 20 labeled slides to Oakland Museum of California,
Professional Services Division, 1000 Oak Street, Oakland, CA 94607.
All slides must be labeled with artist’s name (first and
last), title, media and size in inches.
- Please
also include a resume, cover letter and artist’s statement
as well as a SASE for the return of your materials.
- A jury
of P.S. staff members will review artists’ information. The
review process takes from 10 - 12 weeks.
Once an artist’s
work is selected for our programming, we will keep his or her slides
on file to reference when planning future shows. If we determine
that the work is not a good fit for our exhibitions, we will return
all materials to the artist.
